Udinese coach Andrea Sottil upbeat after West Ham friendly defeat

Udinese coach Andrea Sottil was keen to focus on the positives after defeat to West Ham in their friendly on Saturday afternoon.

Roberto Pereyra netted the opener before the visitors struck back with three goals to emerge as 3-1 victors.

The coach began by explaining that the result is of minimal importance.

“Of course no one likes to lose but the aim of these games is to increase our fitness and improve technically and tactically. West Ham are further ahead with their preparations and for 60-65 minutes the lads played really well with great character. We were giving little away and creating lots. It's a shame about the goals we conceded. We could have done better on the first two."

Udinese also had to make do without seven first-team regulars.

“We're missing quite a few important players but I'm pleased with what I saw today. The youngsters came on with the right spirit.

“[Kingsley] Ehizibue did very well even though he had to play in defence because of our injuries.

“[Festy] Ebosele was excellent going forward; he just needs to improve the defensive side of his game. He's come on a lot and it's great to see him like that."

Sottil then provided an update on the injury situation.

“[Bram] Nuytinck will rejoin the team on Monday, [Jean-Victor] Makengo and [Destiny] Udogie probably around Thursday. We hope to have [Rodrigo] Becao and [Gerard] Deulofeu back around the 19th. Our goal is to get everyone fit again for our last two friendlies."
