Trapattoni backs Capello for Inter Milan job

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has backed England coach Fabio Capello for the Inter Milan job. Inter President Massimo Moratti insists there is no rush to find a replacement, but is known to favour Capello, creating unease at the FA's headquarters in London.

Trapattoni said: "Right now Capello is the No 1 candidate. Even before Mourinho left I imagined his name would emerge as a possible substitute.

"It will depend on his contract, but Moratti had the chance to hire him also in the past. Knowing Fabio, he is certainly very well orientated, but his situation is very delicate and he is being pursued by everyone.

"He has a World Cup in front of him and just half a step wrong could create some difficulties for him. There is no doubting his wishes, but it all depends on the contract question."
