TRANSFER SHOCKER: Kinnear approached Birmingham about signing Newcastle-owned Ferguson

Newcastle United football chief Joe Kinnear attempted to sign one of the club's own players!

The Sunday Express says after watching Birmingham City against Swansea City in a recent League Cup game the former Newcastle manager spoke to Brum officials about midfielder Shane Ferguson.

Dumbfounded Birmingham officials, realising that Kinnear wasn't joking, then had to point out that Ferguson was in fact on a season-long loan - from Newcastle!

A Birmingham insider confirmed Kinnear's latest embarrassment. He said: "Shane Ferguson had a good game the night Joe watched us. After the match was over he spoke to one of our officials and said he was interested in signing him.

"At first our guy thought he was joking but then he realised Joe didn't know that Ferguson was already a Newcastle player."
