Tottenham win can help silence the doubters - Newcastle's Pardew

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew believes Sunday's stirring 2-1 win over Tottenham will go a long way to silencing his critics.

The Magpies hit back from a goal down to conquer Spurs at White Hart Lane for their second win of the Premier League season following last week's 1-0 home win over Leicester City.

Second-half goals from half-time sub Sammy Ameobi and summer signing Ayoze Perez outshone Emmanuel Adebayor's 18th-minute opener which Pardew feels will lift the confidence and morale of his players and Toon supporters alike.

"At the moment, the Geordie nation does not really think I am good enough so hopefully that has ticked one box that I do know what I am doing," he told Sky Sports.

"I have been here for 701 games now so it is pleasing for me and for my team, because we do a lot stuff that we think is important for the team.

"But they [the players] have to carry it out. At the end of the day, you are as good as your players.

"We have got some belief in them and they showed they are fighting for the shirt. That is what our fans want to see."

The win saw Newcastle move up to 14th on the table with ten points from their opening nine fixtures.
