Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer on a five-year deal. Centre-back Wimmer joins Spurs from German side Cologne and becomes their first signing of the summer.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season and helped Cologne avoid relegation in the Bundesliga.

"Kevin's gone on to become a regular in the Cologne defence, as they earned promotion to the German top-flight," said a statement on the Spurs website. "He was a standout performer in their first season back in the Bundesliga."
