Tottenham star Bale lands PFA double prize

Tottenham's Gareth Bale has been named the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year for season 2012/13.

The 23-year old Welsh winger becomes the first player to land the double since Cristiano Ronaldo completed the feat in 2006/07 when at Manchester United and adds the pair of trophies to his player of the year win in 2010/11.

Bale beat United striker Robin van Persie (last season's winner), Liverpool's Luis Suarez, United midfielder Michael Carrick and Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and Juan Mata to the award.

"It's a massive honour. To be voted by your peers is one of the biggest things in the game. It's great to win it and I am delighted," Bale said.

"When you look at the list, there are some massive names on it but I couldn't have done it without the team. They have been fantastic this year and so has the manager."
