Tottenham's head of football development Tim Sherwood has urged Ezekiel Fryers to work hard in order to force his way into the first team.
The 20-year old defender joined Spurs from Standard Liege earlier this month in a move which infuriated Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Fryers, a former United youth, made his first appearances for Spurs' reserves side on Tuesday and Sherwood now wants him to continue his development in North London and become the player he is capable of being.
"Zeki is fully aware that he's a long way away from being ready for Tottenham Hotspur's first team," Sherwood told the club's official website.
"The plan is for him to come in and work hard with the development squad to get to a level - no guarantees - where he could perhaps play for our first team."
