Tottenham's Mason to learn from glaring error at Southampton

Tottenham youngster Ryan Mason will learn a valuable lesson from the weekend's clash with Southampton.

The 23-year old midfielder slipped at a crucial moment in the lead-up to Graziano Pelle's opening goal in the eventual 2-2 draw at St Mary's on Saturday when he attempted to get the ball to left-back Ben Davies.

Pelle pounced on the error to fire the Saints in front and although Spurs recovered to grab a point on the south coast, Mason felt responsible for seeing his side go behind.

"I came in at half-time and apologised to the lads. I wanted to do my best to make up for it in the second half and try to make sure it didn't negatively affect the result," he told the club's official website.

"I was obviously disappointed to give away a sloppy goal but once again we showed character to come back and get a positive result.

"I should probably have cleared my lines first and foremost, but it's one of those things I'll learn from and hopefully won't do again.

"It was unfortunate we didn't get the win but we have to take credit from coming from behind twice. Overall, it's not a bad result."
