Tottenham's Keane wayward as Ireland draw with Slovakia

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane left Republic of Ireland ruing a missed opportunity against Slovakia in Euro2012 qualifying.

The national team captain missed a penalty in first-half stoppage time as Ireland let a one-goal lead slip to eventually draw 1-1 in Slovakia.

Preston North End defender Sean St Ledger put Giovanni Trapattoni's men ahead in the 16th minute but that goal was cancelled out when Jan Durica levelled for Slovakia twenty minutes later.

Ireland should have taken the lead on the stroke of half-time when Everton back-up keeper Jan Mucha brought down Aiden McGeady in the area only for Keane to see his spot-kick saved. The point did, however, get Ireland's qualification back on track as they now sit second in Group B after their 3-2 loss to Russia.
