Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes young left-back Gareth Bale can become a top player.
Redknapp bought the 20-year old in Spurs' 5-0 win over Burnley - Bale's first in a Tottenham shirt in two years - to break the hoodoo and give him some confidence.
Now, with that behind, Redknapp says Bale can improve further but insists he will have to work hard to oust current left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
"That's why I put him on. I thought we needed to break that hoodoo. It's affected him, I think," Redknapp said of the substitution.
"He's a left-back really and he could be a top player.
"We have a great left-back in Benoit Assou-Ekotto. He's a terrific payer, he's quick, he's a great passer. He whips it into feet and he has it all to be a top player."
