Tottenham have failed with an opening bid for Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.
The Belgium international has confirmed he hopes to move to White Hart Lane.
But Algemeen Dagblad says Tottenham's offer of €5 million fell well short of Ajax's €12 million valuation.
Vertonghen has won the Eredivisie Player of the Year this season.
