Tottenham midfielder Dier handed 4-match ban for storming stands

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has been handed a four-match ban for storming the stands earlier this season.

On March 4, Spurs were dumped out of the FA Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Norwich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As the players made their way off the pitch, Dier spotted his youngest brother, Patrick, arguing with a supporter in the lower west stand of the stadium. In the FA Commission report, Dier says it is a supporter whom he was aware had been yelling abuse in his direction.

Footage caught Dier clambering over seats to make his way to where the altercation was taking place, before he was involved in a verbal spat with the supporter.

The midfielder was held back by other spectators before the abusive fan eventually darted out of the stadium.

The Disciplinary Commission made their ruling public today.

"Eric Dier has been suspended for four matches with immediate effect, fined £40,000 and warned as to his future conduct following a breach of FA Rule E3.

"The Tottenham Hotspur FC player admitted that his actions at the conclusion of a fixture against Norwich City FC in The FA Cup on 4 March 2020 were improper but denied that they were also threatening."
