Tottenham are launching a bid for Racing Santander defender Ezequiel Garay.

The Sunday Mirror says Spurs boss Juande Ramos is aware of Garay from his time in Spain as manager of Seville. The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most talented central defenders to emerge from Argentina in the last decade.

Born in Rosario, he joined Racing from Newells Old Boys and is comfortable at centre-back or at full-back. But it is alongside Michael Dawson in central defence that Tottenham have the most pressing need.

Ledley King has suffered yet another setback in his battle against a knee injury and Younes Kaboul is still adjusting to the demands of English football.

Garay fits the bill perfectly and at £7.5m would represent a sound investment.
