Tottenham are finalising their deal for Barcelona striker David Villa.

The Mirror says Fiorentina - Spurs' big rivals for Spain international Villa - have opened the door for his switch to the White Hart Lane club by switching their focus onto Bayern Munich hitman Mario Gomez.

The way is now clear for AVB to make Villa his second summer capture following £17million Corinthians and Brazil midfielder Paulinho.

AVB is understood to have promised the 31-year-old regular first-team football in a season that culminates with the World Cup finals in Brazil.
