Tottenham are moving for Southampton defender Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian is on-loan at Saints from Atletico Madrid.

The Mirror says he had been on West Ham's radar before his move to the south coast, having been identified for the Saints by Paul Mitchell, their former head of player recruitment.

Mitchell has since moved to White Hart Lane and believes Alderweireld will be a significant acquisition to the Spurs backline.

Southampton have an option to make his deal permanent in the summer, although Atletico could yet negate that clause should they wish to do so.
