Tottenham are chasing Dinamo Zagreb star Marcelo Brozovich.
The Daily Star Sunday says new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to hijack Sevilla's move for Brozovic.
Pochettino moves into the Spurs hot seat this week and is keen to see Brozovic, 21, follow in the footsteps of fellow Croat and former Spurs favourite Luka Modric.
Brozovic was a member of the Croatia squad that lost to Brazil and Mexico in the World Cup, although they finished with a flourish by beating Cameroon 4-0.
Sevilla believed they had signed him up but Tottenham's interest has thrown a spanner in the works.
