Tottenham boss Redknapp: Van der Vaart best suited on wing

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes he'll get the best out of Rafael van der Vaart by playing him in a wide role.

He has largely been used as a second striker this season but has scored more goals in the Barclays Premier League (12), than front men Roman Pavlyuchenko (seven), Peter Crouch (four) and Jermain Defoe (two).

Using Van der Vaart on the right would threaten Aaron Lennon's place in the starting line up, but Redknapp said: "That's the choice I have: you play him (Van der Vaart) as a second striker and play with one striker or he can only play off the right.

"I've got Aaron, who's a good player, so that gives me a problem, but there's nowhere else I can play Rafa unless you play with one striker.

"If you want to get two out and out front men in your team, off the right is the only position for him."
