Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp expects a quiet Premier League winter transfer window.
Chelsea apart, Redknapp thinks spending among the top teams will be scarce this month.
He said: "Chelsea might sign a few, but only because they appear to be in a period of transition.
"The bigger clubs tend to do most of their spending in the summer after they have evaluated their squad and identified the areas they need to strengthen.
"I know, from my experience at Portsmouth a few years ago, that the January window can be vital.
"We signed three players from Tottenham and brought in a player from Spain and it kept us up.""Most of the buying or loans deals will be panic-buys by the clubs threatened by relegation or those in and around the lower half of the league.
