Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has again taken a swipe at the previous management over their transfer spending.
Redknapp wants a tilt at breaking into the top four, and that will require keeping his best players and investing wisely in the summer.
The Spurs boss has questioned the transfer policy of the previous regime, where a £17million deal was agreed for David Bentley despite already having a right winger in Aaron Lennon.
"The chairman has always invested and allowed people to spend money," Redknapp said. "It's not a matter of spending money, it's what you spend it on.
"Anyone can spend loads of money, they have spent a lot of money in the last few years without getting the results. If I get money I have to spend it wisely and bring the right players in here."
Spurs have an unbeaten record against the traditional top four in league matches this season, part of a run of results that sees Redknapp's men within reach of Europe.
However, Redknapp added: "I'm not being negative but we are six points off the relegation places and that is more important. The only thing that concerns me is staying up and we haven't done that yet."
