Tottenham boss Redknapp admits Lennon facing World Cup hangover

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits Aaron Lennon is suffering from a World Cup hangover.

Lennon had a disappointing tournament, with England manager Fabio Capello substituting him an hour into the goalless draw against Algeria.

Redknapp said: "Some players came back from the World Cup and it's not affected them. Some, like Wayne Rooney, have not had a good start. Aaron's been quiet and people have marked him tight. He's found it hard to get in the game.

"It's a difficult position to play now. You watch the Matthews Cup Final and the ball comes out to Stan and he starts to jog off, then, about 10 seconds later the left-back comes into the picture and he's going backwards.

"Now, the ball goes out to the winger and the left-back is half a yard away from him and crash. When someone's that close all game, team-mates look at you and don't give you the ball. Or the only ball is inside the full-back and the opposition make sure they get their centre-half over to cover.

"Aaron's got to find a way, or we've got to work hard with him, to get him on the ball. Too many times, people sign players and say: "He can't do this, he can't do that". Well, clever coaches will get the best out of them and improve them."
