Jose Mourinho was pleased with Jan Vertonghen's reaction to being substituted during Wednesday's win over Southampton.

Vertonghen cut a solemn figure as he sat on the bench watching his side come-from-behind to win 3-2 to book their place in the FA Cup fifth-round.

"It's hard to sub players during the game," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"We were not controlling the game in a back five so had to change and he was the one to come out, that's football.

"Some players react in a negative way but Jan acted like the professional that he is."
