Tottenham boss Mourinho: I want to help Levy win silverware here

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to chairman Daniel Levy.

It's 20 years this week since Levy was named Spurs chairman. He has overseen a period of remarkable commercial growth but Spurs have won just one trophy won under his stewardship, the 2008 League Cup.

Mourinho's side have already booked their place in April's League Cup final against Manchester City, and face Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League last-16 first leg on Thursday.

"I'd love to help, it's not me – I'd love to be a part of work that can deliver a trophy," Mourinho said ahead of the visit of the Croatian side.

"I'd love [that]. Sometimes I don't think it's fair for an owner, for a CEO, for an administrator of a club, for a president to be judged on trophies. Because trophies many, many times depend on others too.

"There are many ways to look at working in football and the work that's been done in this club, independent of the trophies, that the club didn't get in the past years, the work is undeniable.

"The club is a big, big club in many aspects. Very, very well organised in many aspects and that's incredible work from him as the big boss in here but from the whole structure that works for him and with him.

“Sometimes I don't think it's fair to judge just on trophies. But trophies are the salt and pepper of football so I'd love [to help] not just for him but for the players, the fans, for everyone. I'd love for that to happen.

"I'm not a big guy on stats but my 1000th official match is going to arrive this season, too. And for a career where I've been lucky enough to win so many things, it'd also be nice for him to celebrate my 1000th official match with a trophy for Tottenham.

"We're going to try. Let's see if it's possible."

Asked for an assessment of Tottenham on and off the pitch during Levy's tenure, Mourinho added: “I always look to my bosses with utmost respect and to be very, very respectful, and I don't feel very comfortable to make any comment on my bosses.

“The only thing I can say is that for one year and a few months our professional relationship is good and of course he tries to give the best conditions for us and of course I try to give the best for myself and demand the best from everyone who works around me, to make the club more successful and better."
