Tottenham alerted as Ferguson prepares to sell Man Utd's Ferdinand

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to listen to offers for veteran defender Rio Ferdinand.

The Daily Star says the 32-year-old has made just seven appearances this season and is facing strong competition for his place from Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

His contract at United runs until 2013 but Fergie could decide to cash in on the former Leeds and West Ham star by selling him to the highest bidder next summer.

No talks about a new deal are planned and Fergie has growing concerns about Ferdinand's long-term fitness.

Ferdinand has suffered from a long-standing back problem which has seen him miss large chunks of his United career.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is keen to be reunited with Ferdinand and could even make a bid to land him in the next transfer window.
