Torres grateful to Liverpool boss Benitez

Fernando Torres is grateful to Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez for the way he has helped him settle in England.

"It helped me when I arrived in England that the manager knew me already and has always had confidence in my ability," said Torres.

"He has a great reputation in Spain and as soon as I heard that he was interested in signing me, I had no doubt I would come to Liverpool.

"Everything has been made easy for me. I've been well looked after, which has allowed me to concentrate on just scoring goals for Liverpool.

"This is all down to the people at the club and the set-up there. I have to thank everyone."

He continued: "I came to England thinking it might take a year or so to adapt to a new style of play before getting anywhere near my best form. But I really wanted to make an immediate impact.

"When I signed for Liverpool, I said that one of my main targets was to increase my average goals-per-season ratio and I have done that.

"I am delighted to have done this well so soon in my Liverpool career."

Torres added: "The style of play in The Premier League suits me and it is how I like to play the game.

"Spanish football is very stop-start. Players go down as soon as they are fouled and there are a lot of free-kicks awarded. But it is very different in England.

"It is a very physical style of play and players always battle hard but they do try to stay on their feet and the referees try to allow the game to flow more smoothly.

"It is very different to what I was used to back in Spain but I really like it."
