Fernando Torres insists he and his Atletico Madrid teammates are eagerly anticipating their pre-season trip down under.

Los Rojiblancos will travel to Australia next week to take part in the 2016 International Champions Cup competition where they will Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Friday week.

Regarding the club's very first visit to Australian shores, striker Torres admits there is an air of excitement engulfing the players as they prepare for an assault on both La Liga and Champions League in 2016/17.

“Always the pre-season is exciting and this year we go to Melbourne, so we are really excited," he told LaLiga World.

“To go there, to meet our fans, is amazing to see the messages of the Australian people. There are people living in Melbourne especially waiting for us, they are excited and we are excited.

“We are really looking forward to going there.

“It is the first time for Atletico Madrid going to Australia.

“It is my first time as well so I am really excited. I have been looking to go there on holidays many times but at the end I didn't go so it is nice to have this opportunity.

“I know we have a lot of supporters there that clearly do not have the chance to see the team over there so it is going to be a great opportunity for them meet the players and we will try to have time for them because we do not know when will be the next time we play in Australia.

“It's always exciting to travel around the world and Australia is always one of the places everybody wants to visit."

Torres was speaking ahead of Atletico's trip to Australia for the 2016 International Champions Cup, presented by Audi, which sees them take on Spurs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday, July 29.
