Toronto star Giovinco expresses pure delight at winning MLS MVP award

Sebastian Giovinco was named the 2015 Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Italian capped off a stunning debut campaign with Toronto FC by being named the league's best player this season after scoring a stunning 22 goals and providing 16 assists.

Giovinco, who joined TFC from Italian giants Juventus in January this year, beat Columbus Crew hero Kei Kamara and Sporting Kansas City star Benny Feilhaber to claim the MVP prize.

When accepting the award, Giovinco spoke of his delight at performing so well for a club and city he has quickly endeared himself to and revealed plans to achieve unbridled success in Toronto both individually and from a team perspective.

"I am very, very happy for this award," Giovinco said. "And I would like to win more.

"[I] will try [my] best to make sure that next year [we] will win another and [something for] the team as well.

"There is a new energy in Toronto: it is winning."

Regarding his new-found hero status in the multi-cultural Canadian city, Giovinco added: "It was a great surprise.

"When you change your life, your team, your club, at the beginning, everything is a little bit tougher. It was nice; it was easier to share everything. [I'm] also very happy about the city itself; [I've] had a lot of support."
