Toronto's Bradley plays down Defoe's departure plans

Toronto FC midfielder Michael Bradley has played down suggestions that Jermain Defoe is looking to leave the MLS club.

The English striker has enjoyed a successful beginning to life in Canada, scoring 11 goals in 16 league outings, but was the subject of plenty of interest from Premier League clubs during the recent transfer window.

QPR and Leicester City target Defoe has remained with Toronto even though head coach Ryan Nelsen was recently sacked and Bradley has moved quickly to state that he believes the former Tottenham ace is committed to the Reds for the foreseeable future.

Bradley also made it clear that he himself was content at the BMO Field even though TFC currently sit 6th on the Eastern Conference table after spending big in the off-season.

"When I came in January and sat at the press conference and told people I was excited for the challenge of coming to Toronto, those might have been just words to you guys but it was exactly what I meant," ?Bradley said.

"I didn't expect it to be easy, and it hasn't been. But we're going to continue to make progress.

"The second part is that we only want guys at this club who are committed to be here, who's hearts are in it. Jermain has been a guy, from day one, has shown a desire and a real motivation to not only being here but helping this team win."
