Toronto FC set to confirm signing of Sunderland's Altidore

MLS club Toronto FC are on the verge of signing Jozy Altidore from Sunderland according to reports.

The Toronto Sun suggests that the 25-year old USA striker will be unveiled by the Reds as early as Friday in what is believed to a swap deal which will see Reds marksman Jermain Defoe join the Premier League side.

Altidore has struggled at the Stadium of Light since joining from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar in July 2013, scoring just three goals in over 50 appearances, but will bring him with to BMO Field extensive knowledge of MLS.

The 75-time US international netted 16 times for New York Red Bulls earlier in his career which landed him a transfer to Spanish side Villarreal in 2008.

Since then Altidore has spent time on loan at Xerez, Hull City and Bursaspor but it looks as though he will be returning to MLS on a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal.
