Thwaite likely to join Gold Coast United

SK Brann defender Michael Thwaite looks certain to join Gold Coast United next season. Currently on loan to the Melbourne Victory, Thwaite looks set to be released from his contract with Norwegian club SK Brann and will join Gold Coast on a free transfer.

A source in Norway has revealed the information to The World Game.

''It's our understanding that Michael has agreed to a deal for up to three years with Gold Coast and believes it's the best move for his career and current circumstances," the source said.

''His first team opportunities were limited here, he's only made one first team appearance and he feels he's best placed to get back in the Socceroos team by staying in Australia.''

Gold Coast assistant coach Paul Okon said the prospect of signing Thwaite was an exciting one.

''If a deal is concluded he will forge an excellent pairing with Griffiths (Gold Coast signing Adam Griffiths).

''Michael's career probably hasn't progressed as far as it should of and there's a lot of improvement still in him.

''Hopefully we can help take him to that next level and help him win back a place in the Socceroos squad. ''An ankle injury probably hasn't helped him this season and he's been a little up and down but all the attributes are there for him to push on and make some big statements in his career.''
