Thai club to make offer for Brisbane Roar skipper Smith

Brisbane Roar have confirmed that captain Matt Smith has been approached by a Thai club.

The 32-year old English-born defender is the subject of an offer from an unnamed team in the Thai Premier League, which the player is likely to consider, but Roar chairman Chris Fong is hoping to keep hold of their influential skipper.

"Matt has expressed the view to the club that he believes this possible move is in his best interests at this stage of his playing career," Fong said.

"Brisbane Roar will await a formal offer from the club and will then consider Matt's request."

Smith, who has played three times for Australia, joined the Roar ahead of the 2010/11 A-League season and has helped guide the club to two regular season titles and three championships.
