Chelsea and England captain John Terry has urged fans to get behind teammate Ashley Cole in today's friendly against Slovakia.
He said: "My message is get behind Ash.
"When you make a mistake, that's when you need the other players and the fans to lift you and pick you up again.
"Off the field there are going to be incidents, sometimes they are not the truth, but sometimes there is a lot of truth thrown in. As a younger player, I certainly made my mistakes over the years and I have definitely learned from that.
"People might not agree with me, but I think you have to have your bad times to learn.
"If you keep making your mistakes over and over again, then that is when you have an issue.
"If you can make a mistake at 18 or 19 and then learn from it and not make it again, it is obviously a learning curve for younger players.
"The main thing for us players is to keep our discipline on and off the field, play well for our clubs, keep out of the limelight and concentrate on what we love doing - and that is playing football."
