Ten-man Sporting Kansas City hold off Chicago Fire

Sporting Kansas City played their first match at their new stadium, LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, last night but were unable to open it with a win.

Almost 20,000 fans turned out to the purpose-built venue and saw their team reduced to ten men before they held out Chicago Fire for a scoreless draw.

Sporting goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen was sent off with just over 20 minutes remaining for handling the ball outside the area as both sides enjoyed plenty of chances but neither could beat the opposing gloveman, except for that one occasion when the veteran had a bran phase.

The Kansas City club remained bottom of the Eastern Conference table with Chicago sitting above them, four points clear, but having played two extra matches.
