Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag blocked Shola Shoretire from leaving on-loan this past week.
Shoretire, 18, had originally been earmarked for a temporary exit this season but those plans were scrapped after Ten Hag indicated he wanted to keep the forward around for the time being.
The Manchester Evening News says the teenager received interest from a number of Championship clubs this summer, but the decision was taken to oversee his development at United.
It is understood Shoretire will feature for the U21s while continuing to train with the senior side, and he could feature in the Europa League squad this season, before the club re-evaluate his situation ahead of the January transfer window.
