Tampa Bay Rowdies sign ex-Newcastle, Wolves striker Carl Cort

The Tampa Bay Rowdies today announced that they have signed forward Carl Cort, pending league approval.

Cort (6-4, 172), who hails from London, England, spent five seasons with Newcastle of the English Premier League after being signed by manager Bobby Robson to a five-year contract in the summer of 2000. Cort scored five goals in 10 English Premier League appearances after returning from injury late in the 2000-01 season for Newcastle United.

Cort saw action for the Wolverhampton Wanderers over the course of four seasons from 2004-07 and tallied 32 goals. In the 2004-05 season, he notched 16 goals in 40 appearances and the following season added nine goals in the first 11 matches for Wolverhampton.

Cort, born in London of Guyanese descent, has also seen action for the England U-21 team and most recently for League One side Brentford. He has also previously played for Wimbledon, Lincoln City, Leicester City, UD Marbella and Norwich City.
