After yesterday's finals-ending draw with Newcastle Jets, Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka was left to rue the side's poor start to the season.
The single point from yesterday's tough encounter at EnergyAustralia Stadium left the Sky Blues without a chance of qualifying for the playoffs this season and it was their opening 10 matches that sealed their fate according to the coach.
''We had a very poor start, we chased 10 games before getting our first win, and we missed many, many points,'' he said after the match. ''We improved after that but then, just before Christmas, we had another couple of poor results. Now we've improved, in the final period of the season, but we've missed too many points before.
''Six games unbeaten is a good thing but we wanted more than one point [tonight]. We are certainly disappointed. We believed there was a small chance there to reach the finals, but not now. I think this result wasn't good enough for either side.''
Sydney have two games left for the season - the first against Wellington Phoenix at home on Wednesday - followed by a trip to Melbourne to take on the Heart on Saturday night.
