A-League clubs are ready to pounce after the release from Sunderland of Matthew Fletcher.
The talented centre-forward was cut loose by the Black Cats over the weekend after manager Steve Bruce added young strikers Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-won to his squad last week.
Fletcher is expected to attract lower league interest in England, though could return to Australia to kickoff his senior career.
The Australia U20 international, 19, was likened to Mark Viduka on Wearside and could interest hometown club Sydney FC for the coming A-League season.
Melbourne Victory have also been mentioned after their swoop for released Liverpool goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis, also a Sydney native.
