Sydney FC knocked out of A-League finals by Wellington Phoenix

Sydney FC's season has come to an end after they were beaten 3-2 by Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium in the A-League Elimination Final.

The Phoenix led 2-0 at the 78th minute as the retiring Tim Brown and defender Ben Sigmund put the home side ahead but the Sky Blues managed to answer twice through young gun Joel Chianese who had grabbed a match-winning double last week against Newcastle Jets.

With just under five minutes remaining, however, Wellington got an opportunity to win the contest when Paul Ifill was brought down in the area by Michael Beauchamp with the Englishman dusting himself off to slot home the winner from the penalty spot.

The Phoenix will now go on to meet the winner of Sunday's Perth Glory v Melbourne Heart clash whilst Sydney will now prepare for life after coach Vitezslav Lavicka whose tenure with the Sky Blues is now over.
