Sydney coach Lavicka proud of players after breaking winless streak

Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka was proud of how his players went about winning their first game of the season.

In their 11th attempt this term, their title-defending season, the Sky Blues finally managed to record maximum points as they cruised to a 3-0 win at Perth Glory and the performance was very pleasing for their Czech manager.

"There was a lot of criticism of us after our game against the Melbourne Victory but this is the right answer from the team. I am very happy and satisfied but it is only the first step forward but an important step," Lavicka said.

"It was the first time we kept a clean sheet which is great. We played much more effectively in attack so I am very happy at the players that came in but the best Sydney FC player tonight was the team.

"Every player worked hard and gave their maximum for the team tonight. It is only one win. We need to get more. We never give up reaching the goals we set ourselves before the season. Team unity and hard work is the main focus for us."

Sydney moved within one point of second-bottom Newcastle Jets who take on the North Queensland Fury on Wednesday. A loss to the Jets would give the Sky Blues the chanced to pull themselves off the foot of the table when they take on the in-form Brisbane Roar at home on the weekend.
