The Swiss national team has received a blow with all-time leading scorer Alexander Frei going down with a broken arm.
The FC Basel striker sustained the injury playing in the Swiss Super League against FC Aarau on Saturday and will be out for at least two months.
"It must be calculated that Frei will not be able to play football for between eight and 10 weeks," said the club on their official website.
Switzerland boss Ottmar Hitzfeld said although it was bad news, he remained hopeful that Frei would be back in full flight before June's World Cup.
"It's something we have to live with," said Hitzfeld on the Swiss federation's official website.
"We still have some alternatives up our sleeve. But I hope for the player, the club and the national team that his recovery goes well."
