Swansea boss Rodgers likens Vorm to Barcelona No1 Valdes

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers is delighted with the capture of Utrecht goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

Vorm has gone straight into the squad for the testing trip to Manchester City, with Rodgers confident the new man is the ideal person to replace his compatriot Dorus de Vries, who left for Wolves on a free transfer earlier in the summer.

Rodgers said: "I had a terrific keeper last year in Dorus de Vries and I was obviously sad and very disappointed that he left, but life moves on and he went to Wolves and I am sure he will do a terrific job there.

"For us it was then the case of looking to get in the right type of goalkeeper. There were many good goalkeepers who could have been available but we needed one that was going to suit our style and Michel was one that was on our list.

"After looking at his style and his game I think his attributes suit us perfectly. He makes saves, which is important for a keeper. But for how we play, we like to build the game from behind, it is vital that the goalkeeper is comfortable with his feet.

"You will find nearly all Dutch goalkeepers understand and manage the game very well and he is a player that not only does that but he controls the game well from behind and will help us construct the game from the back."

Rodgers also paid his new signing the tribute of comparing him to current Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes.

"He is very quick and very agile so he is similar to Victor Valdes at Barcelona," Rodgers added. "He is not 6ft 4in or 6ft 5in, he is 6ft or 6ft 1in with great speed and agility and he is perfect for our style of football."
