Sunderland winger Adam Johnson is taking extra training as he bids to find his best form.
Martin O'Neill's men are volunteering for extra training as they bid to scrap their way out of trouble.
O'Neill said: "I've always wanted one-to-one tuition with players, whatever position they play in.
"Steve Guppy's come in to work individually with players after training. He's taken up the baton and is doing really well.
"He's played at a high level and can still demonstrate what he wants the players to do. It's been an eye-opener for the players.
"The encouragement comes from players like Adam and James staying behind to do extra work.
"You work every day to try and put your mark on the club and try and improve results."
