Sunderland and Aston Villa are trailing Inter Milan midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic.
The Mirror says the 26-year-old has been told he will be sold this summer by Inter Milan and the Italians will study offers this week.
Scouts working on behalf of Paolo Di Canio and Paul Lambert have been checking on the player, but so too have counterparts from Malaga and Stuttgart.
