Sunderland are watching Sheffield United striker Diego De Girolamo.
The Daily Star Sunday says the Italy Under-20s international has been offered a new contract by the Blades but is ready to leave the club over his lack of action.
Forward De Girolamo, 19, has been on loan at York City but the Black Cats recognise his potential and are keen to sign him in a deal at the end of the season.
A move to Italy has also been mooted for the youngster.
