Sunderland skipper Cattermole has Vaughan sympathy

Sunderland skipper Lee Cattermole says no-one blames David Vaughan for his own goal in their FA Cup defeat to Everton.

The midfielder was visibly distraught as Everton celebrated and Cattermole spoke out afterwards to back his colleague, who has shown some fine form since arriving in the summer.

"It was tough for David," Cattermole told safc.com.

"He'd just come on and for that to happen - he could do it 100 times over and probably wouldn't do the same thing.

"He's been brilliant of late and was very unlucky not to start the game."
