Sunderland are moving for Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell.

The Mirror says Sidwell started for the Blues in yesterday's win over Fulham, but is very much a fringe player after leaving Reading on a free in May.

The 25-year-old is likely to feature more regularly this month with Michael Essien away on African Nations Cup duty with Ghana and Frank Lampard out injured.

But when they return in February, Sidwell will be back on the bench, which could make any offer from Sunderland boss Keane tempting.
