Sunderland new boy Matthews expects Advocaat to strengthen further

Sunderland's new signing Adam Matthews expects manager Dick Advocaat to make more signings in a bid to avoid another relegation fight next season.

The full-back moved to the Stadium of Light from Scottish giants Celtic last week and is confident he will not be the last of the new additions after joining Sebastian Coates who recently joined the Black Cats from Liverpool.

"The manager has spoken and said he is hoping to bring in a couple more players so hopefully we won't be in the relegation fight against this season," he told Sky Sports.

"With the players they have here, they shouldn't be in a relegation fight anyway, but I spoke to Dick Advocaat and he said he is going to try and get more players in which can only strengthen the squad.

"He seems really energetic and into his football so hopefully I can do a job for him because he seems like a great manager and a great man."
