Sunderland face a waiting game over the prospect of signing permanently Fiorentina fullback Marcos Alonso.
Fiorentina are expected to hang on to the defender until pre-season at least in order to re-assess a player they had all but given up on before his loan move to Sunderland, says the Sunderland Echo.
West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has also registered his interest.
Alonso played for Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers.
