Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is moving for Wigan Athletic midfielder Momo Diame.

The Mirror says O'Neill has stepped in for the Senegalese free agent, who had talks with Kenny Dalglish about a dream move to Merseyside before the Kop legend was axed.

Diame wants to stay in the Premier League despite interest from Spanish side Real Betis and he is expected on ­Wearside for discussions in the next 48 hours.
