Sunderland legend Gary Bennett is delighted for Matt Kilgallon over his recent resurgence.

Kilgallon looked to be heading towards the exit door following loan spells at Middlesbrough and Doncaster, but has been a revelation after being handed a first-team recall by Martin O'Neill.

"Matt has let no-one down," Bennett told safc.com.

"We're talking about a bit of a forgotten player who had a couple of spells out on loan as well as some time out injured.

"You have to say that he hasn't put a foot wrong since coming back. It's amazing what a bit of belief and a second chance can do.

"Things have really come off for him."
