Sunderland keeper Mignolet proud of wonder save

Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was proud of his wonder save late on in their FA Cup draw at Everton.

The effort is being compared with Jim Montgomery's famous stop for Sunderland's FA Cup final win.

Mignolet admitted: "I know about that save in 1973 but that was in the final and Sunderland won the Cup. We are only in the quarters and still have a job to do.

"I see Jim quite often at the Stadium of Light, and obviously everyone knows about that save because it was so important as well, it kept the team in it, and they ended up winning the Cup.

"Everyone will remember him for that, but if we don't get through in the replay, no one will mention this save again. As a goalkeeper you try to make yourself as big as you can and luckily for me he hit it into my side.

"You can talk about the save, but if Phil Bardsley hadn't scored we wouldn't still be in the Cup.

"It's not just about one person, it's not about a few saves as they can get forgotten pretty quickly if you don't get through."
